Our internet was hooked up at our new home here in Alabama today. We're pretty happy about that. It has been inconvenient not having internet access at home. We picked up our new mattress today too. It's like Christmas in January!

I took a fork to the eye tonight, resulting in a scratched cornea and $113 in medical bills. Toddlers have pretty quick hands and love to swing stuff around. I'll be just fine in a few days, but for now my eye is pretty uncomfortable. I'm not going to start wearing safety glasses in the kitchen, but I will definitely be more careful in the future. A fork in the eye is not pleasant, and I don't want to repeat the experience with a piece of metal or a stick or someting like that.

I have slowly been acquiring photography equipment that I will use to capture images for the website I am working on. I started out by buying an inexpensive, functional camera and lenses. I then bought a bag and cleaning kit. For my birthday I received a remote shutter release and the monopod pictured in my last post, and just today I unpacked my new tripod and ballhead. I think they are sturdy enough to meet my current and future needs (sorry, this isn't a great picture):

Next I will invest in some nice lenses and a higher-end camera body, but those are quite expensive and it may be a while before I am able to get the lenses I'd like.

The American teams are off to a good start in the Tour de France, currently sitting in 1st,2nd,3rd,and 8th place (of 22) in the team standings. If I paid for TV I would watch the race, but I don't pay for TV so I'll read about it online instead.

This is a skipper, if what I read about lepidopteran antennae is correct. Yes, I sometimes read about lepidopteran antennae for fun.

Velvet ants (which are actually wasps) reportedly have a very painful sting (the most painful sting?). I didn't provoke this one in an attempt to test this claim.

I love the coloration of this frog (a southern leopard frog, perhaps?).

And finally, a heron picture! And not just any heron, this is the first green heron I have seen in my life (that I can remember).

This raccoon just wouldn't leave our doorstep. Seeing it right here scared Amy pretty good when she threw the door open this morning. I think an opening and then slamming door should motivate a healthy raccoon to find a new place to be, but this one was acting weird. Maybe it was intoxicated, or rabid.
